===== Information for Users ("READ-ME") ================
This package contains the SCBA Trak (TM) Self Contained Breathing
Apparatus (SCBA) and Personal Alert Safety System (PASS) Maintenance
Record System. This document contains only a brief description of the
package and features, along with instructions for its installation.
Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
archived form, and is more easily read after installation.
If you've ever wished you could organize all your SCBA and PASS unit
records and keep on top of the maintenance requirements with a minimum
of effort, then SCBA Trak is the program for you. This is one piece of
apparatus no fire department should be without!
SCBA Trak is a shareware program. This evaluation version includes all
features of the program, and is not crippled in any way. You may use it
for up to 30 days without charge. If you like the program, and wish to
continue using it after this evaluation period, you are required to pay
for the program (see ORDER.FRM for more details). Any fee you may have
paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation
version was a fee for their copying and distribution services, rather
than a payment for continued use of the program.
It features:
Inventory and reporting capability for your back packs. Stores the last
repair and certification dates and costs for better budgeting. Stores
the last pressure reducer overhaul, last mask regulator overhaul, and
last flow test dates and retest intervals. Alerts of packs coming due
for repetitive maintenance, such as a flow test or some other type of
certification. Alerts you of packs overdue for visual check, if
applicable. Generates a budget projection report for packs that will be
due for recertification between two user selected dates, using the
previous cost for recertification or a user entered "per pack" price.
Lists all of your packs and the piece of apparatus they were last known
to be on. Records maintenance notes and history.
Inventory and reporting capability for your SCBA masks. As most
departments have more masks than packs, and some assign masks to each
firefighter, this module allows you to keep track of them wherever they
might be. Alerts of masks coming due for repetitive maintenance, such as
annual certification or overhaul. Alerts you of masks overdue for visual
check, if applicable. Alerts of masks coming due for fit tests, if
you've assigned masks to each firefighter. Generates a budget projection
report for masks that will be due for recertification between two user
selected dates, using the previous cost for recertification or a user
entered "per mask" price. Lists all of your masks and the piece of
apparatus they were last known to be on or the person to whom they're
assigned. Records maintenance notes and history.
Inventory and reporting capability for your air bottles. Tracks the last
hydrostatic test date to alert you of bottles coming due for hydro test.
Alerts you of bottles which have not been filled within a user selected
time period, if desired. Tracks composite bottles to help assure they
are not used past their ultimate life. Tracks the "Last Visual" date in
case you are performing the internal inspections required by the
Compressed Gas Association and some OSHA programs. Generates budget
projection reports for bottles that will be due for hydrostatic test
between two user selected dates, using the previous hydro test cost or a
user entered "per bottle" price. Lists all of your bottles and the piece
of apparatus they were last known to be on. Records maintenance notes and
history.
Inventory and reporting capability for your PASS units. Tracks the date
of the last battery change and last functional check. Alerts you of
units coming due for a battery change or overdue for a functional check,
if applicable. Lists all of your PASS units and the piece of apparatus
they were last known to be on or the person to whom they're assigned.
Records maintenance notes and history.
A separate module called the "fill log" tracks all bottles you have
filled for anyone. Entries about the filling of your bottles are
transferred automatically into your air bottle inventory file to keep
your records up to date. You can record the "incident number" where each
bottle was filled. This will enable you to file for hazmat reimbursement
for the filling of each bottle, if permitted by local law. Filling a
hundred bottles and charging five dollars apiece can add up to a lot of
cost reimbursement you may have been missing.
Automatic early warning of equipment coming due for some type of
maintenance. You pick a lead time in days from 0 to 998 days for each of
thirteen different items and SCBA Trak can warn you if any item is within
it's lead time or already overdue each time you start the program.
A special mode of operation called "multi-owner" allows you to track
equipment belonging to another department or company using the same data
files as for your own equipment. You can selectively view and report on
the equipment that belongs to just one owner. An owner can be another
municipality, a different division in your company, or even individual
fire stations. For example, if you're a repair facility, you can easily
track all of your customers' equipment, sending them an early warning
notification of equipment coming due for maintenance. Or, if you're a
countywide department, you can send each station or district a list of
equipment assigned to them that's coming due for maintenance. And their
list has only their equipment on it; not everything in the county that's
coming due!
On-line "Press F1 for help" available.
Easy to use query generator. Uses plain language to construct custom
queries. Such as: "Back packs purchased between 01/01/1985 and 12/31/1987
and made by MSA and working pressure = 2216" or "Bottles with a working
pressure of 2216 and a serial number starting with ALT649", etc. You pick
the conditions from a list, adding relevant dates, and the query is
automatically constructed.
Changeable field names - can change "bottle" to "cylinder" (or
whatever),change "SCBA Mask" to "Facepiece" (or whatever), etc.
A multitude of reports and other features, including:
Total bottles filled between two dates, limited to only one specific
organization/owner, if desired.
Summary report of how many bottles filled for whom, up to twenty
different owner/organization names. Superb for annual reports or
activity reports.
The ability to track your equipment via a department-assigned "I.D.
Number" as an alternative to using the manufacturers' serial number. You
can use up to twelve characters for the I.D. number.
Budget list of all composite cylinders that will reach their fifteen year
ultimate life between two dates, with the estimated cost of replacement.
Searches by partial serial number, partial I.D. number, assigned location
(apparatus) or assigned person.
Single unit printouts are available for of each pack, mask, PASS unit,
and air bottle with all pertinent information and it's maintenance
history listed.
Each program module allows you to record the "Purchase Date", "Purchase
Cost", and "Purchased From" information so warranty dates and equipment
costs can be easily found. Superb for making HazMat equipment
reimbursement claims.
Mouseable.
Automatic "DOS protected mode" operation. If your computer is at least a
286 and has at least 512K of extended memory, SCBA Trak will switch
itself into protected mode. This will speed up program operation, but
more importantly, the amount of base memory required (the lower 640K)
drops from 480K to 200K. No more problems with network drivers or TSRs
causing "low memory" errors.
Programmable "F" keys and list boxes to aid in entering information.
Easy backup of data files without having to go through DOS. Data
compression is used to reduce the number of diskettes required.
Optional password protection of access to the inventory and maintenance
records.
The ability to send printed reports to a disk file for importing into a
word processor. (registered versions only)
It was written so we no longer had to chase through each truck looking
for equipment needing whatever. It showed the Chief exactly how many
bottles we were filling for other departments who lacked their own
compressors. It helped convince the Administration we needed a second,
faster compressor and a larger bank. It made our annual budget forecast
far more accurate.
Hope you like it.

===== Installation =====================================
All files should be extracted into a separate directory. I suggest using
the name \SCBATRAK as the automatic installation program provided with
the registered version defaults to that name.
To run the program, change to the \SCBATRAK directory, type SCBATRAK at
the DOS prompt, and press the Enter key. When SCBA Trak detects that this
is the first time you've used the program, it'll ask you a few basic
questions to get itself set up correctly for your computer.
I strongly urge you to print the instruction manual if you're serious
about using the program. The instructions are contained in the file named
MANUAL.DOC and can be printed by typing the command:
copy manual.doc prn and pressing the Enter key.
Thank you for trying SCBA Trak !

DISTRIBUTION LICENSE
---------------------
The attached VENDINFO data record is hereby incorporated by reference.
Any distribution satisfying all the distribution requirements expressed
in that data record is hereby authorized.
OBSOLETE PROGRAM NOTICE - If you are carrying my previous program
SCBABOTL, I would appreciate your deleting it from your inventory and
catalog. The SCBA Trak program has all of the features of the last
version of SCBABOTL along with significant improvements. SCBABOTL was
distributed under the following archive names:
SCBABT10.* SCBABT11.* SCBABT12.* SCBABT13.* SCBABT14.*
This version of SCBA Trak replaces the previous files which were
distributed under the archive names SCBATR20.* , SCBATR21.* ,
SCBATR22.* , SCBATR23.* and SCBATR24.* .
You can free up to 560K of disk space by removing one of these old
versions.
WARNING: The early versions of the program (before SCBATR21.*) may not be
compatible with DOS 6 and the EMM386 memory manager. If your customer has
the NOEMS switch on the EMM386 command line, the earlier versions WILL
lock up his or her computer just after starting the program. The NOEMS
switch is almost always used if the end user has Windows (trademark of
Microsoft) installed on their computer. It's in your best interest to
delete these earlier versions to assure happy customers. Please blame the
manufacturer of the compiler, Nantucket Corp., for this problem, not me.
I hereby grant permission to all disk vendors, user groups, CD-ROM
vendors and distributors, and computer bulletin boards to carry the
copyrighted program SCBA Trak (TM) for distribution, under the following
conditions:
1. If a charge is made for distribution, it is not to exceed $ 8.00. A
"distribution charge" does not include bulletin board subscriptions,
the price of a CD-ROM, etc.
2. The program description does not materially differ from the
description in the file FILE_ID.DIZ or as otherwise contained in this
VENDINFO.DIZ file.
3. The program is plainly distributed as "shareware" or "user-supported"
software, with a registration payment needed for continued use.
4. The program is distributed unmodified. This does not preclude your
adding "read.me" files, etc.
All members of the Association of Shareware Professionals <ASP> are
automatically considered in compliance with the above.
If you are a disk vendor, please drop me a post card if you will be
carrying this program. I, in return, will assure you receive copies of
all future versions.
If you have to re-archive the program for distribution, I would
appreciate your using the following format:
SCBATRxx.* where the two xx 's are replaced with the major and minor
program version. The time stamp on the file SCBATRAK.EXE is set to show
the version. A time of 02:18 means version 2.18 . The "right hand
minutes" digit is ignored when determining the archive suffix.
Example: version 2.18 would have an archive name of SCBATR21.???
===== About VENDINFO Files =============================
Each VENDINFO.DIZ file contains extensive information about a product.
This "human-readable" section is followed by a compressed data record
useable by automated tools. The data record allows BBSes and other
distributors to automate package handling, and provides users with a
wealth of product information. VENDINFO tools (free viewer for users,
free or inexpensive processors for distributors, editors for authors)
are available from many BBSes, disk vendors, and other sources.
